Education System of Iran
The education system of Iran is structured and governed by the Ministry of Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Education starting Class 1 to Class 9 is compulsory and free. Senior High School i.e. Class 10 to 12 is optional. Students who complete 12 years of successful school education get a chance to enter for University Education and earn diplomas and under graduate and post graduate degrees. Iran is a growing economy of South Asia. The government spending on education is 5% of its GDP.
While education from Class 1 to Class 9 is compulsory. To help students in further education and develop interest, the government offers various scholarships and study aid. In most of Iran there are also found private educational institutes. Iran has three International Baccalaureate (IB) schools. They are Mehr-e-Taban International School, Shahid Mahdavi International School, and Tehran International School.
Education is also offered through distance learning and online mode. As of 2020, 70% of Iranian schools are linked to the local intranet. Iran produces the third highest number of engineers in the world. Around 70% of engineering graduates are women.
